What is Suprema-D®
Suprema-D® contains the active ingredient 25-Hydroxyvitamin D₃, which is synonymous with calcidiol or calcifediol. This is a shelf-stable feed additive that boosts bone strength, eggshell quality, natural immunity, and reproductive success in animals.
25-Hydroxyvitamin D₃ is an endogenous Vitamin D metabolite and is thus produced naturally in animal liver through the hydroxylation of Vitamin D₃. Suprema-D® , the high-potency form of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D₃ (Calcifediol), optimizes calcium and phosphorus absorption.
Being the bioavailable and circulatory form of vitamin D, 25-OH-D₃ bypasses the hepatic conversion. Furthermore, it has 3–5 times the bioefficacy of standard vitamin D₃, resulting in faster biological activity.
How Suprema-D® Works
Suprema-D® accelerates the metabolic pathways followed by Vitamin D and enhances calcium and phosphorus utilization in animals. Unlike standard Vitamin D, 25-hydroxy D3 is an active form and does not need to be metabolised by the liver. Thus, it offers a faster increase in plasma 25-OH-D₃ concentration and longer half-life.
In the kidney, it is converted to Calcitrol (1,25-(OH)₂-D₃), Vitamin D’s hormonally active form. This regulates calcibidin (calcium-binding protein) expression in intestinal epithelial cells and enhances active absorption of dietary Ca²⁺ and phosphate (P).
The improved absorption of calcium and phosphorus results in higher bone mineral density, bone strength, improved eggshell quality, and supports fetal bone development. Further, it also improves reproductive activity, growth, lactation, and natural immunity.
Benefits of Suprema-D®
The key advantages offered by Suprema-D® are as follows:
- Superior bioavailability as compared to traditional vitamin D₃, helping reduce skeletal issues and improve production efficiency.
- Offers skeletal support with enhanced bone mineralization, leg strength, and eggshell quality in broilers, sows, layers, and piglets.
- Supports fetal growth and bone development by absorption through the placental barrier.
- Improves maternal bone reserves during the gestation and lactation period.
- Engineered to be shelf-stable during feed processing.
- Studies have shown excellent efficacy across multiple breeds, including gilts, sows, piglets, broilers, breeders, and layers.
Comparative studies performed with Suprema-D® versus the market dominant product as a benchmark upon broilers in the US, where Vitamin D-25-hydroxy levels in the plasma and bone were measured, revealed a 355.4% higher concentration of 25-OH-D₃ than control levels and 66.7% higher concentration than similar products on Day 21. Further, 202.6% higher concentration than the control and 21.1% higher concentration than similar products were observed on Day 42.
This data attests to the efficacy and bioavailability of Suprema-D® (25-Hydroxyvitamin D₃).
Frequently Asked Questions
25-Hydroxyvitamin D3 has a few synonym, ie 25-Hydroxycholesterol, calcidiol and calcifediol. They are chemically the same thing.
Comparative studies have found that Suprema-D® has greater bioavailability than other products of its class, including Key market benchmark product HD. This is proven by 42.9 – 66.7% higher levels of Vitamin D-25-hydroxy in plasma and bone.
Suprema-D® should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Suprema-D® is safe when used in the recommended dosage. However, it is important to adhere to the recommended dosage and veterinary advice when using Suprema-D® as a feed additive.
We conducted a puffing stability test showing that Suprema-D® was consistent in terms of the content of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D3 before and after the puffing condition harshest at 130°C for 70 seconds.
